Carpet Cleaning Tips

Proper and regular carpet cleaning can extend the life and appearance of your carpet. This is because the primary cause of carpet wear is dirt, and any oily soils that get on the carpet attract more oily soil. In addition, typical household dust settles everywhere, including your carpet. Dirt and dust can carry bacteria, dander, pollen, germs and mold spores resulting in an unhealthyenvironment.

Spots & Stains

For removing spots & stains, prompt attention and treatment is always best. The longer a spill is on the carpet, the more likely it will become permanent. No carpet is completely stain resistant. Suggested steps are;

1. Remove any solids, then begin gently blotting liquids outside the spot with a clean, dry, white cloth or white paper towel
2. Continue blotting toward the middle of the spot in order to prevent the spill from spreading.
3. Blot until slightly damp (do not scrub as this may damage the carpet)

Deep Cleaning

For best results, follow this treatment of spot & stain removal with a carpet cleaning solution brand such as one approved by the Carpet & Rug Institute. See http://www.carpet-rug.org. Deep cleaning your carpet with a full size deep cleaning machine (extractor) can further preserve the life and beauty of your carpet.

Both FebrezeTM Deep Cleaning & Oxygen Action formula and Advanced Pet Solution for full-size deep cleaning machines have the Seal of Approval for cleaning effectiveness by the highly respected Carpet & Rug Institute. The formulas were specially designed to be safe and very effective in ANY full size deep cleaning machine including Bissell®, Hoover®, Dirt Devil® and rentals. Unlike any other brand, FebrezeTM formulas remove deep down dirt, odors and will fill your room with the freshness of FebrezeTM.

When using a deep cleaning formula, it is important to properly mix the formula with hot water (not boiling) and to follow the manufacturer’s instructions. Testing the cleaning solution in a small, hidden area of the carpet, rug or upholstery before applying it to a highly visible area is recommended. FebrezeTM Deep Cleaning formulas were developed to be safe for use on most carpets, rugs and upholstery but should not be used on products not intended for a water extraction method. For example, do not use on natural fiber oriental rugs (silk or wool), hand-loomed wool rugs or braided rugs.

Before using your own or a rented full size deep cleaning machine, vacuum thoroughly. Then, start the deep cleaning at the farthest point from the doorway that you plan to use to exit the room. Be careful not to overwet the carpet, and be sure to extract as much of the cleaning mixture from the carpet as possible. Wait for the carpet to dry before replacing furniture or walking on the carpet.

A thorough, deep cleaning is recommended at the very least every six months to a year.
